...for the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants.
— Leviticus 18:25

In 2015 I had a dramatic apocalyptic dream, full of unique symbolism and shocking revelations. It was the first major ‘end-of-the-world’ type dream I had ever received, and between the thrilling action and the drama of the scenes, there were some extremely sombre assertions made. Included was the biblical concept of “the iniquity of the land”, a notable theme in some prophetic books of the old testament. Most shocking of all, though, was the inference in my dream that a nation would be destroyed.

Although the events of the dream clearly relate to my life personally, I believe it has a wider application at the national level:- to Christians living in my country, and even beyond that to the inhabitants of Europe. Will an entire nation really be destroyed? Is the message purely figurative and not literal? Only time will tell.

💭Dream · 8th May 2015 · Mark-Alexander

It felt like the end of the world. Acid rain was coming down from the sky and burning through things. We were all trying to work out what would happen next from the scriptures. The Bible said that tanks would come to take people away, but we needed to convert that symbol into something else to understand what would literally happen. We were moving towards a place where we would be taken away, until we arrived somewhere like [My Upper School] where the 'tanks' appeared. They were cubes which descended from the sky. There were pools of green burning toxic waste that were starting to appear in the ground and we needed to leave England quickly because it was soon going to be destroyed. Everyone was rushing to escape.

I made it into a cube and it started flying towards America. We were emigrating there because it was safe there. [My Family] were not with me. They were still stuck in their jobs at work and would have to give notice before leaving their workplaces, therefore the process would take more time for them. I was thinking about them, wondering if they would make it over safely, and not get left behind. Others were texting their family members but I didn’t do that because I decided to have faith and believe that it would all work out for them somehow.

During the journey, I saw a screen showing a map of terrain, with arrows indicating all the people who were journeying up across Europe to escape their countries. The map was not of the UK like I expected, but it was a map of Poland. Lots of people were travelling up through Poland, but they were having to travel longer distances than we were, in order to make it. However they were persistent and took the journey anyway. I was trying to work out why this was happening in our country, and I was saying that it could be because of the iniquity of our land that has stored up over the years, and now judgement had come as a result.

I was looking forward to starting a new life in America.

-End-

When I first received this dream I was ‘perplexed’, to say the least. There is a lot to unpack here. Firstly, I believe that the dream originates from the Holy Spirit and is prophetic, regarding future events. I cannot truthfully say I understand all of the elements yet, but I want to at least offer my thoughts on what I think it means. This is not a “thus saith the Lord” interpretation, but rather, these are my Prophetic Musings:

My Interpretation:

“It felt like the end of the world.”

The apocalyptic theme of the dream indicates that England will face a judgment day of some kind.

“Acid rain was coming down from the sky and burning through things.”

I believe the acid rain represents a spiritually toxic and wicked atmosphere that has accumulated over time, resulting in judgment being poured out from heaven upon England. Alternatively, there is a possibility that the acid rain represents something more literal, like a chemical attack from the air.

“We were all trying to work out what would happen next from the scriptures. The Bible said that tanks would come to take people away, but we needed to convert that symbol into something else to understand what would literally happen.”

In the dream, Christians are trying to interpret the terrible events unfolding around them, in accordance with prophecy in scripture. They understand that it is relevant to the ‘end times’ and are attempting to decode biblical symbolism. Mention is made of tanks that take people away. Tanks are an emblem of war.

“We were moving towards a place where we would be taken away, until we arrived somewhere like [My Upper School] where the 'tanks' appeared.”

The ‘tanks’ appear once we get to my upper/high school. This signifies having moved to a higher position, to be closer to, or more intimate with, the Lord Jesus. School indicates learning, so it could mean we have to obtain some knowledge first before we are delivered.

“They were cubes which descended from the sky.”

The cubes are strongly reminiscent of the city of New Jerusalem coming down from heaven in the book of revelation, which is an apocalyptic book. Notice how the description in revelation implies that the city is in the shape of a cube:

📖Revelation 21:16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

The city is like a new ark, preserving the people within it. In my dream, the cubes are vehicles of salvation rescuing and transporting people (including me) out of the country. The symbolic allusion to the New Jerusalem could represent the beginning of a journey to a new and better city.

“There were pools of green burning toxic waste that were starting to appear in the ground”

I believe the pools of toxic waste symbolize the iniquity of the land being exposed. Notice also that they are ‘burning’ like the acid rain mentioned earlier.

“We needed to leave England quickly because it was soon going to be destroyed. Everyone was rushing to escape.”

Next, the direness of the situation is revealed in full extent: England is written down to be destroyed. The threat of destruction reaches such a critical level, and the danger is so manifestly apparent, that everyone urgently rushes to evacuate the country.

“I made it into a cube and it started flying towards America. We were emigrating there because it was safe there.”

I manage to reach a cube where I flee for refuge in the United States of America, arguably a place no better with respect to morality, but presented as safer because of God’s impending judgment upon England. At the time of the dream I did actually want to move to America. To many, it is a nation synonymous with prosperity, hope and freedom. I am moving there permanently in the dream.

“[My Family] were not with me. They were still stuck in their jobs at work and would have to give notice before leaving their workplaces, therefore the process would take more time for them. I was thinking about them, wondering if they would make it over safely, and not get left behind. Others were texting their family members but I didn’t do that because I decided to have faith and believe that it would all work out for them somehow.”

My family were still working in their jobs. Conceivably, they were making arrangements to leave their life in England to join me, but definitely not with the same urgency as myself. Maybe they didn’t fully believe me, or I was going ahead of them to prepare a place for us all.

“As I was on the journey, I saw a screen showing a map of terrain, with arrows indicating all the people who were journeying up across Europe to escape their countries.

At this point of the dream, I felt like I was on an aeroplane viewing a virtual map, like those that track the progress of a plane journey in real-time. Via the map, I was given a higher perspective to watch masses of people traversing the continent. The sense was that something was happening on an enormous scale in Europe, as well as in my nation. Perhaps those people were refugees escaping war or some other kind of persecution. They seemed to be moving in a north-westerly direction.

“The map was not of the UK like I expected, but it was a map of Poland. Lots of people were travelling up through Poland, but they were having to travel longer distances than we were, in order to make it. However they were persistent and took the journey anyway.”

For some reason it becomes a map of Poland instead of the UK or Europe. Why the map depicts Poland I don’t know, but perhaps there is a link between the UK and Poland. Again, the people are travelling up through the country. The journey seems more difficult for them compared to us, because they have to cover longer distances in order to reach their destination.

In dreams, nations are sometimes symbolic. If Poland is a symbol here, it may be representing Eastern Europe, or it could symbolize a military invasion, since Hitler’s invasion of Poland instigated World War 2. However, if Poland doesn’t stand for anything other than itself, then maybe conflict is being associated with that country. Poland has a land boundary with Russia but it also shares a border with Ukraine on the south-east. Is that why people were fleeing north-west through Poland?

“I was trying to work out why this was happening in our country, and I was saying that it could be because of the iniquity of our land that has stored up over the years, and now judgement had come as a result.”

The focus shifts back to England. The phrase “iniquity of our land” is the obvious giveaway to me that the dream was of the Holy Spirit. It’s not the kind of language I ordinarily use and therefore it emphasizes the seriousness of the message to me personally. It makes me think of a large bowl of God’s wrath that has been filled to tipping point.

“I was looking forward to starting a new life in America.”

Myself and others escaping their homelands were about to start over, putting down roots in a new country. The dream finished on a positive note. There was a sense of relief that I had successfully escaped the troubles in my country, and there was a feeling of hope and anticipation for starting a new life in a secure land.

Thus concludes the dream.

📝Summary of my Interpretation

God’s judgment is coming upon England because of the iniquity of the land that has been stored up. There will be a dire situation, perhaps of war or persecution that affects the people of England and Europe too. Consequently, multitudes will flee to escape the troubles taking place in their nations. People will flee north-west through Poland. Many will emigrate abroad to somewhere favourable that will be a safe haven where they can prosper. God will send deliverance for those who are vigilant, who seek to interpret the signs of the times correctly, and who position themselves close to heaven. Once we learn the necessary knowledge and wisdom, we can make a safe departure and escape God’s impending judgments. England will be destroyed somehow but God will deliver and preserve the faithful.

Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
— Revelation 18:4

To the natural mind, the prospect of England being destroyed may be laughable, but I’m reminded of chapter 19 of Genesis, where Lot’s sons-in-law thought him to be joking when he warned them of a judgment from heaven. Moments later, fire and sulphur rained down upon them and they perished in the city. Conversely, Lot escaped and preserved his life. The reason for the overthrow? It was also because of ‘iniquity’.

And what about this prophecy spoken by the Lord Jesus:

📖“…when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. ~Luke 21:20-22

Jesus was known among the people for speaking in parables and figurative language. Even the brightest minds in Israel fumbled in their attempts to comprehend his words. Yet when he uttered forth a prophetic declaration regarding the destruction of Jerusalem, it was far from parabolic. And it may have taken approximately 40 years to come to pass, but the devastation of the city was a bitter reality for its citizens, upon whom were inflicted unspeakable horrors and misery. The first century historian Flavius Josephus recorded accounts of the Jews who met an unnecessarily grisly demise due to not heeding the words of Jesus. So I ask Christians to bear this in mind.

I remember several years ago I heard a voice within me say, “There’s going to be a war in Syria.” And not many months after, I watched from afar as the war commenced and progressed into an appalling humanitarian crisis extending over a period of many years. In fact, I think it is still ongoing. Then some years after that, I also heard a voice say to me “World War 3”. I couldn’t tell whether it was from the Holy Spirit, or my own mind, but it seems as though these three words have crossed the lips of leaders and journalists much more frequently in recent years, as the stark reality of such a situation becomes ever more likely. Perhaps that is what humanity must endure before heaven comes to earth.

Whether this dream refers to a world war, or some other desperate situation, I’m not sure. But it is evident to me that something formidable is on the horizon. I am not making any arrangements to leave my country yet, but I will be praying continually for God to keep me abreast of developments on the subject of my dream. I urge other Christians to do the same. Keep on monitoring events and interpreting the signs, and listen to what the Holy Spirit says to you in response to them.

I know that whatever happens we are protected by faith and kept through the love of Christ. I trust in his promise that “not a hair of your head shall be lost.” I feel like this dream is bigger than me, I feel like war or something similar is being hinted at. For the moment, I continue to live my life as I usually would, but guaranteed, if the Spirit stirs me, I will not hesitate to pack a suitcase and board a plane to a safer land. I will be out of here in the blink of an eye.
